According to data released by our partner JATO Dynamics, new car sales in Latvia dive 11% year-on-year in September to just 1.078 units, feeling the hangover effect of artificially boosted August figures. The year-to-date tally is now up 3.6% to 13.158. The Toyota Auris soars 141% year-on-year and 8 spots on last month to top the models ranking in September, overtaking the Nissan Qashqai (-11%) and Toyota RAV4 (-24%). Both the Skoda Octavia (+71%) and Toyota C-HR (+150%) post fantastic scores in the remainder of the Top 10, enabling the latter to return inside the YTD Top 10 at #9, a ranking it held over the Full Year 2017. The VW Passat (-75%), Ford Focus (-71%), VW Golf (-60%) and Tiguan (-45%) are hit hardest by the post-WLTP blues.

The Nissan Qashqai (+52%) and VW Tiguan (+274%) also post solid albeit artificial results in the remainder of the podium, with the Toyota RAV4 (+20%) the only other Top 10 nameplate in frank positive territory just as the Kia Sportage (-47%) and Skoda Octavia (-37%) get paradoxically penalised by a lack of non WLTP-compliant stock to clear.
