Estonia September 2018: Toyota RAV4 tops market down 18.2%

Thanks to our partnership with JATO Dynamics we can share with you today September data for Estonia where sales take a logical -18.2% year-on-year hit to 1.537 units after being artificially boosted by pre-WLTP registrations like the rest of the European Union. The year-to-date volume remains however in frank positive at +8.2% to 20.519. This month the Toyota RAV4 (+15%) snaps the models lead with 5.9% share, distancing the Skoda Octavia (-55%), Renault Clio (+11%) and Kia Sportage (+11%). #1 in August, the Toyota Avensis sinks 90% this month and drops from #1 YTD to #4. In the remainder of the Top 10, the Toyota C-HR (+34%) and Kia Cee’d (+14%) also shine.

Estonia August 2018: Toyota Avensis and Renault Clio get biggest pre-WLTP boost

The Toyota Avensis is #1 in Estonia in August – albeit completely artificially.

New car sales in Estonia are boosted up 33.8% year-on-year by pre-WLTP stock clearances to 2.655 registrations, lifting the year-to-date tally up 11.1% to 18.982. The Toyota Avensis (+290%) gets a clear inventory-shifting boost at #1 with 10.3% share vs. 4% YTD, lurching up from #4 YTD a month ago to #1. The Renault Clio (+800%!) is also up artificially at #2 with 7.5% vs. 3.9% so far in 2018 but remains at #3 YTD. Notice also the Toyota RAV4 (+112%), C-HR (+161%) and Renault Captur up to #6 in August and #9 YTD.

Thanks to our partnership with JATO Dynamics we can share with you today July data for Estonia, a market up 9.1% to 2.256 registrations, lifting the year-to-date volume up 6.7% to 16.833. This month and for the second time in 2018 after last February, the Renault Clio is the most popular nameplate in Estonia thanks to sales up 6-fold on July 2017 to 5.6% share, earning the #3 spot year-to-dat off the Toyota Avensis. The Toyota RAV4 (-29%), leader in June, is knocked down to #2, a ranking it also holds year-to-date. The Kia Cee’d (+20%) is up three spots on last month to #3 ahead of the Skoda Octavia (-30%) still in the YTD pole position. The Toyota C-HR breaks into the Top 5 for the first time at #5, now ranking #10 so far in 2018. The Kia Sportage (+42%) also makes itself noticed whereas the VW Golf (-42%) sinks.

Thanks to our partnership with JATO Dynamics we can share with you today June data for Estonia, a market down 3.2% year-on-year for the month to 2.566 registrations leading to a YTD tally up 8.1% to 14.190. For the first time since last March we have a change of guard atop the Estonian models charts: the Toyota RAV4 (+49%) takes the lead thanks to a splendid year-on-year gain possibly triggered by runout pricing on the outgoing generation. The Skoda Octavia (-22%) remains solidly at the helm of the YTD order despite a steep fall in July. The Renault Clio (+62%) rallies back up to third place, logical given Renault’s policy of loading up on sales at the quarter ends. The Toyota Auris (+15%) and Avensis (-6%) round up the Top 5 while the Kia Cee’d (-23%) reappears inside the Top 10 both in June and YTD despite falling sharply year-on-year and the Kia Sportage (+69%) posts another very dynamic month.

The Skoda Octavia remains the most popular vehicle in the country despite a 14% drop to 4.7% share, and is followed this month by the Kia Sportage surging 62% year-on-year and 6 spots on April. It now ranks #5 year-to-date. The Toyota Avensis (-35%), RAV4 (-19%) and Skoda Superb (+10%) round up the Top 5 while the Honda CR-V (#6) and Toyota Auris (#7) are back inside the Top 10. Notice also the VW Golf up 74% to #8.

The market is up 9.9% year-on-year this month to 2.424. units, leading to a YTD volume up 13.9% to 9.056. The Skoda Octavia, leader year-to-date and for the past two consecutive years, reclaims the monthly throne for the first time this year and despite a steep 17% year-on-year drop. It is followed by the Toyota RAV4 (+41%) and Avensis (+5%), replicating the YTD podium. The Skoda Superb (+30%) is up four spots on March to #4 while the VW Passat returns inside the YTD Top 10 at #9 thanks to a 5th place in April. The Skoda Kodiaq shoots up to a best-ever 6th place with the VW Golf up 39% at #7.

Surprise atop the models ranking: the Honda HR-V shoots up from outside the March Top 10 directly into pole position with 5.3% share, lifting tip to #4 YTD. Leader in February, the Renault Clio is knocked down to #2 but posts another very strong month, up 31% year-on-year. Still on top YTD the Skoda Octavia freefalls 36% to #3, followed by the Toyota RAV4 (-32%) and Avensis (-44%) also both in great difficulty. The Toyota Auris’ stable sales are rewarded with a three spot-uptick on last month to #6, while the VW Golf is up 137% year-on-year but down 5 ranks on February to #9.

Outside the January Top 10, the Renault Clio sells an estimated 89 units to take the lead of the Estonian models ranking in February and rank #3 year-to-date despite sales down 29% on the same period in 2017. The Skoda Octavia, #2 this month, snaps the YTD lead off the Toyota RAV4 with deliveries up 18% to 4.3% share after two months vs. +36% and 4.2% for the RAV4. The VW Golf surges 161% to #4, the Toyota Avensis is up 12% to #5, the Toyota Auris up 26% to #9 and the Toyota Corolla up 146% to #10.

Thanks to our partnership with JATO Dynamics, we can share with you today new car sales for Estonia, up 23.6% year-on-year to 2.447 units in January. The Toyota RAV4 snaps up the lead this month thanks to deliveries up 36% year-on-year, distancing the Skoda Octavia (+74%) and Toyota Avensis (+36%) meaning the entire podium outpaces the market, whereas the Honda CR-V drops 22% in 4th place. Notice also the Toyota Auris up 84% and the Toyota Corolla up 89%.

The Estonian new car market is up 11.5% year-on-year in 2017 to 25.020 registrations. The Skoda Octavia outpaces the market with a 17% gain to 5.3% share, posting a second consecutive year atop the Estonian charts and 4th in total after 20112014 and 2016. The Toyota Avensis (+7%) remains in 2nd place, distancing the Toyota RAV4 up 47% and five spots to #3. The Renault Clio is the best performer in the Top 10, more than doubling its sales on 2016 at +102% to 3% share and up 14 ranks to #4, even snapping the pole position in a demo sales-filled December. The VW Passat is up two spots to #5, the Skoda Superb up 6 to #6 and the Kia Sportage up 3 to #7 whereas the Nissan Qashqai (-21%), Toyota Auris (-26%) and Honda CR-V (-19%) all tumble down.
