New car sales in Chile celebrate 30 consecutive months of year-on-year gains in October with a splendid +23.3% surge to 37.132 registrations, a new record for the month smashing the previous best of 34.175 established in 2012. This is also the 20the double-digit gain in the past 25 months, propelling the year-to-date tally up 19.5% to a record 348.539 units after 10 months, eclipsing the 305.857 units of 2013. Chevrolet (+31%) reclaims the top spot it holds year-to-date, even though it is only its third monthly win since last April. Hyundai (+38%) and Suzuki (+61%), both in excellent shape, round up the podium while Mazda (+29%), Ford (+27%) and Mitsubishi (+23%) post the next best gains in the remainder of the Top 10 where Toyota (-13%) and Nissan (-11%) struggle. Further down, Opel (+293%), the Chrysler Group (+116%), Skoda (+100%), Citroen (+69%) and Mercedes (+69%) impress but once gain it’s Chinese manufacturers, all-in-all up 58% to 13% share, that lodge some of the most spectacular gains, with Brilliance (+145%), MG (+143%), Changan (+138%), JAC (+84%), the Great Wall Group (+55%), Chery (+38%), Dongfeng (+35%), Maxus (+31%) ZNA (+31%) and FAW (+29%) making themselves noticed.

Chile September 2018: Hyundai leads, VW up 79% in record market

Hyundai is the best-selling carmaker in Chile in September despite dropping 8% year-on-year.

The Chilean new car market continues on its very impressive run, clocking a 29th consecutive month of year-on-year gain in September at +10.7% to 39.263 registrations, a new record for the month eclipsing the previous best of 36.595 established in 2011. This also marks the 19th month of double-digit gains out of the past 25. Logically, the year-to-date tally is up 19.1% to an all-time best 311.407 units, the fastest in Chilean history the 300.000 unit mark is crossed – in just 9 months. Hyundai (-8%) rallies back up four spots on last month to take the lead of the brands ranking like it did over the Full Year 2017, despite dropping significantly year-on-year.

ZNA (+80%) is one of the best performing Chinese carmakers in Chile.

Toyota (+7%) is also up 4 ranks to #2 ahead of Chevrolet (+5%) stable at #3. Suzuki (+21%) posts the largest gain near the top but loses 2 spots to #4 while August leader Kia (+0.1%) is down four to #5. Notice also the Chrysler Group (+119%), Volkswagen (+79%), Citroen (+30%), Mazda (+30%) and Peugeot (+24%), the best performers in the Top 15. Further down, most largest gains once again are from Chinese carmakers up 28% as a whole to 12.1% share, with MG (+98%), ZNA (+80%), Brilliance (+66%), Changan (+50%), JAC (+46%) and Maxus (+42%) the most dynamic while among foreigners Opel (+7400%), Skoda (+94%) and Honda (+26%) also shine.

Model-wise, the Mitsubishi L200 rallies back up 4 spots on August to reclaim the pole position it holds year-to-date, with the Toyota RAV4 up 6 to #2 vs. #6 so far this year and the Chevrolet Sail down one to #3. The Toyota Yaris (+4), Hyundai Grand i10 (+4), Mazda CX-5 (+5) and Hyundai Tucson (+6) also impress at #4, #7, #9 and #10 respectively while the Chery Tiggo 2 is among the 20 most popular nameplates in the country at #18.

New car sales in Chile post an incredible 28th consecutive month of year-on-year gains in August at +9.8% to 38.729 registrations, smashing the August record established just last year. Strikingly, this is however the lowest gain of any month in 2018, a year that sees its volume climb 20.4% to an all-time high 272.144 units. Kia (+11%) is the best-selling carmaker in the country for the first time in over two years (since July 2016), 65 sales above Suzuki (+11%) and 67 above Chevrolet (+1%) remaining #1 YTD. Nissan (-2%) and Hyundai (-17%) are in difficulty whereas Volkswagen (+43%), Peugeot (+21%) and Mazda (+12%) all beat the market to post double-digit gains. Further down, the most impressive gainers include Opel (+3800%), Maxus (+137%), Changan (+121%), MG (+88%), Foton (+77%), Land Rover (+65%), the Chrysler Group (+64%), Brilliance (+52%), Lifan (+37%), Mitsubishi (+37%), JAC (+35%), Dongfeng (+34%), Chery (+31%), Subaru (+30%) and Citroen (+28%), a list once again dominated by Chinese carmakers up 37% as a whole. Model-wise, the Kia Rio overtakes the Chevrolet Sail to snap the top spot with the Suzuki Swift (+7) and Kia Morning making the Top Four 100% passenger cars. The Hyundai Accent is up 6 ranks on July to #6, the Hyundai Grand i10 up 7 to #11, the Mazda CX-5 up 10 to #14 and the Chery Tiggo 2 knocks on the Top 20’s door again.

The Chilean new car market gains 11.4% year-on-year in July to 31.285 registrations, leading to a year-to-date volume up 22.4% to 233.415 units. Chevrolet (+11%) follows the market and rebounds back up four spots on June to the pole position it holds year-to-date, distancing Kia (+14%), Suzuki (+26%) and Nissan (-8%) in difficulty. Volkswagen (+51%), Mazda (+17%) and Toyota (+13%) also shine inside the Top 10, while further down Opel (+900%), Maxus (+218%), Changan (+178%), Lifan (+118%), MG (+116%), the Chrysler Group (+111%), Lexus (+67%), Foton (+66%), Land Rover (+56%), Skoda (+55%) and Volvo (+45%) all surge ahead. As a whole, Chinese carmakers continue to vastly outperform the market with sales up 50% in July to 13.9% share vs. 12.6% YTD. New vehicle sales in Chile soar 21.6% year-on-year in June to 33.228 units, that’s a 6th consecutive double-digit year-on-year gain and a new all-time record for the month lifting the year-to-date volume up 24.3% to 202.130 sales, also a new record halfway through the year. This month, Passenger Cars gain 11.9% to 81.435, SUVs are up 31.9% to 69.578, light commercials up 20.6% to 32.107 and medium/heavy commercials up 34.1% to 19.010. Suzuki soars 46% year-on-year to take the lead of the brands ranking for the 2nd time this year after last February, ranking #2 YTD at 8% share. Kia (+16%) is up four spots on May to #2 despite trailing the market, ahead of Toyota (+32%) and Nissan (+22%) whereas Chevrolet (-4%) and Hyundai (-0.3%) the May leader both significantly under-perform. Further down, notice Opel (+386%), the Chrysler Group (+101%), BMW (+82%), Volvo (+46%), Mercedes (+36%), Volkswagen (+33%), Land Rover (+32%), Mazda (+31%) and Skoda (+30%) all posting stunning gains just as Chinese carmakers, as a whole up 47%, continue to shine, notably Maxus (+345%), Changan (+125%), Dongfeng (+114%), ZNA (+63%), Foton (+62%), JAC (+59%) and Lifan (+46%).

The Chilean new vehicle market continues to gallop ahead in 2018, posting a 5th consecutive double-digit year-on-year gain in May at +18.1% to 35.328 units, a new all-time record for the month lifting the year-to-date volume up 24.8% to 168.902. Hyundai (+13%) steps up two spots on April to snap the brands pole position for the first time this year and only the third time in the past 10 months. The Korean carmaker knocks Chevrolet (+5%) down to #1 just as Nissan (+30%), Toyota (+21%) and Suzuki (+19%) all outpace the market to round up the Top 5. The Chrysler Group (+102%), Ssangyong (+49%), Volkswagen (+26%) and Mercedes (+23%) shine but once again it’s Chinese carmakers that lodge the most impressive gains. Overall up 56% to 13.1% share vs. 12.3% so far in 2018, the best performing Chinese manufacturers are Maxus (+384%), Dongfeng (+124%), Changan (+122%), ZNA (+120%), Lifan (+94%), BAIC (+53%), MG (+46%), JAC (+45%), Chery (+41%) and Foton (+35%).

New vehicle sales in Chile surge 43.7% year-on-year in April to break a new record for the month at 35.470 units, eclipsing the 32.206 sales from April 2013. The stunning result lifts the year-to-date tally up 26.7% to 133.573, also a new record after four months, beating the previous best of 122.491 established in 2013. Brand leader Chevrolet (+46%) roughly follows the market but Suzuki almost doubles the market growth at +78% to land in 2nd place. The remainder of the Top 6 all underperform: Hyundai (+34%), Kia (+40%), Toyota (+30%) and Nissan (+25%) all advance slower than the market. Mazda (+70%), Peugeot (+65%) and Volkswagen (+50%) also shine inside the Top 10 while below, Porsche (+267%), Opel (+150%), the Chrysler Group (+143%), BMW (+89%) and Honda (+63%) impress but the majority of large year-on-year gains once again go to Chinese manufacturers, all-in-all up 73% to 11.8% share this month vs. +63% to 12.1% YTD. Their best performers include Maxus (+480%), Dongfeng (+164%), Changan (+105%), MG (+96%), Foton (+78%), the Great Wall Group (+66%) and BAIC (+54%).

Model-wise, the Mitsubishi L200 solidly holds onto the top spot at 2.8% share but its direct follower this month is the Suzuki Swift, up five spots on March to #2, knocking the Chevrolet Sail down to #3. The Nissan NP300 is up two ranks to #4, the Kia Rio down two to #5 and the Hyundai Grand i10 up five to #6. The Toyota Hilux makes it three pickups in the Top 8, with the Peugeot Partner shooting up to #11 and the Suzuki Baleno up to #15,

Chile March 2018: Chevrolet reclaims lead, Chinese up 39%

Thanks to the new T60, Maxus sales in Chile are up 4-fold so far in 2018.

The Chilean new car market continues to evolve at record heights in 2018, up 12.5% year-on-year in March to 33.355 registrations, a new best for the month lifting the Q1 result up 21.5% to 98.104 units, also a new all-time high eclipsing the previous best of 90.285 established in 2013. SUVs are up 28% to 11.281, pickup trucks up 15.3% to 3.246, light commercials up 12.5% to 5.370 and passenger cars up 1.7% to 13.458. Leader year-to-date, Chevrolet reclaims the monthly top spot off Suzuki in March but trails the market at +8% to 9.6% share above Kia at 8.1% (+2%). Suzuki (+18%) takes the third spot ahead of Nissan (+20%) whereas Hyundai implodes (-16%).

Volkswagen (+56%) also frankly beats the market in the Top 10 while below, Proton (+700%), the Chrysler Group (+141%), Mini (+128%), Jaguar (+118%), Honda (+53%), Renault (+42%), Opel (+35%), Lexus (+32%) and Ssangyong (+27%) all impress. Once again Chinese manufacturers post some of the most striking year-on-year gains this month. As such, Maxus (+258%), Dongfeng (+133%), BAIC (+131%), Lifan (+89%), Changan (+63%), ZNA (+45%), the Great Wall Group (+43%) and Foton (+37%) all gallop ahead. All-in-all, Chinese carmaker amount to 11.4% share of the Chilean market in March, up 39% year-on-year, vs. 12.3% so far in 2018 (+59%).

Model-wise, the Mitsubishi L-200 remains the best-seller in the country this month with 2.8% share vs. 2.6% YTD, while the Chevrolet Sail climbs four spots on February to #2 ahead of the Kia Rio (+1) and Morning (-2) while the Toyota RAV4 tops the SUV segment at #5 overall. Notice the Chevrolet D-Max up to #10 vs. #17 YTD, the Nissan Kicks up to #14 vs. #20 and the Nissan X-Trail and Kia Frontier both breaking into the Top 20.

New car sales in Chile shoot up 23.6% year-on-year in February to 29.427 units, a new record for the month, lifting the year-to-date tally up 26.7% to a record 64.749 registrations. In a very tight race for the brands crown, Suzuki (+26%) takes the lead for the second time in the past four months, only 15 units above Kia (+12%), 30 above Chevrolet (+1%), 112 above Hyundai (+6%) and 116 above Nissan (+18%). Mazda (+39%) and Peugeot (+25%) also advance faster than the market inside the Top 10.

The big story once again in Chile is the dynamism of Chinese carmakers. Among the 14 present in this month’s Top 50, Changan takes the leads at #14 overall thanks to deliveries more than doubling year-on-year at +101%, followed closely by Chery (+54%) and Great Wall Motors (+56%). Maxus (+199%), FAW (+154%), BAIC (+140%), Lifan (+120%), Dongfeng (+111%), Foton (+110%) and MG (+62%) also post spectacular gains this month. All-in-all, Chinese manufacturers surge 71% year-on-year in February -exactly the same rate as January- to hit 13.3% share. Lost among all these Chinese unknown marques? Over in the models ranking, the Mitsubishi L200 reclaims the top of the charts both this month (2.9% share) and YTD (2.5%) and distances for February the Kia Morning, Suzuki Swift, Kia Rio and Nissan NP300. The Chevrolet Sail at #6 is the only other nameplate to snap at least 2% of the Chilean market. The Hyundai Grand i10 breaks into the Top 10, the Hyundai Accent is down 10 spots on January (when it was best-seller) to #11, the Hyundai Tucson is up 5 to #15 and the Nissan Qashqai shines at #18. The JAC S2 is the best-selling Chinese vehicle in Chile this month, getting close to the Top 20.

New car sales in Chile shoot up 29.3% year-on-year in January to 35.322 registrations. Passenger cars are up 18.7% to 14.055, SUVs surge 46.1% to 12.573, pickups are up 29% to 5.336 and commercials are up 22.9% to 3.358. #2 in FY2017, Chevrolet takes the lead of the brands ranking this month but advances at half the rate of the market at +14% to 8.3% share above Hyundai slower too at +11% to 8%. Suzuki soars 37% to 7.8% in third place while Toyota jumps 43% to 7.5% at #4. Kia is up 9% but down three spots on December to #5 and Nissan, leader a year ago in January, edges down 0.3% to 7.3% share. Mazda (+95%) and Renault (+73%) post the largest gains in the Top 10. Below, Chinese carmakers make the largest improvements: Maxus (+631%), Changan (+133%), Lifan (+120%), BAIC (+118%), ZNA (+100%), Dongfeng (+98%) and Chery (+89%) post stellar scores, with Chinese manufacturers as a whole up a stunning 71% to 12.3% share vs. 10.3% over the Full Year 2017. Skoda (+112%), Land Rover (+104%), Citroen (+77%), BMW (+66%), Chrysler Group (+66%), Volvo (+50%) and Mitsubishi (+44%) also make themselves noticed.

Model-wise, the Hyundai Accent is in the lead despite a 13% year-on-year drop, ahead of the Chevrolet Sail (+95%) and Toyota RAV4 (+35%). Leader over the Full Year 2017, the Mitsubishi L200 falls to #4 while the Kia Morning (-2%) rounds up the Top 5. Notice also the Renault Duster (+345%), Toyota Yaris (+72%) and Renault Symbol (+70%) posting spectacular gains. The Chery Tiggo2 (337 sales), JAC S2 (302) and Great Wall Wingle (151) are among the best-selling Chinese nameplates.
