Belgium July 2019: Mercedes (+59.9%) shoots up to #2 brand in strong market (+5.5%)

The new A-Class helps Mercedes cross the symbolic 10% share mark in Belgium.

Following a trend observed in France and Germany, new car sales in Belgium are surprisingly strong in July at +5.5% to 45.110 units, given the fact July 2018 was artificially boosted by pre-WLTP stock clearance registrations (+16.8%). The year-to-date volume now stands at 355.599, down -4.9% on the same period in 2018. Volkswagen (+5.4%) manages to outpace a particularly high year-ago comparison base (+41%) to remain in the brands lead with 11.1% but it’s Mercedes that snaps the title of hero of the month with sales surging 59.9% to a fantastic 10.1% market share for July. Leader last month, Renault (+9.1%) is relegated to #3 ahead of Peugeot (+1.7%) and Audi (-8.1%). Dacia (+20.8%), Citroen (+20.5%), Skoda (+7.6%) and Opel (+5.2%) all display generous upticks but BMW (-22.1%) is in perdition. The list of high performing brands further down the ranking is long, and includes Tesla (+386.2%), Alpine (+107.1%), Mitsubishi (+68.4%), Honda (+47.8%), Lexus (+46.3%), Seat (+39.9%), Mazda (+25.7%) and Jeep (+19%).
