Ireland February 2019: VW Tiguan and Hyundai Kona top market down 11.3%

The Hyundai Kona ranks #2 in Ireland in February.

The Irish new car market continues on a horrendous start of 2019 with February sales down another 11.3% to 15.088 units, leading to a year-to-date tally now down 12.3% to 47.380. Volkswagen (+14.9%) and Skoda (+5.3%) buck the negative trend to take the lead of the brands ranking this month, both toppling last month’s leader Hyundai (-3.4%) with Toyota (+3%) and more strikingly Renault (+34.4%) posting solid scores in the remainder of the Top 10. However it’s a ghastly month for Ford (-37.6%), Nissan (-30.5%), Audi (-25.1%) and Kia (-13.8%). Further down, DS (+1600%), Jeep (+200%), Mitsubishi (+26.5%), Suzuki (+15%), Seat (+9.2%) and Mazda (+5.7%) impress.  Model-wise, the VW Tiguan (+36.2%) brilliantly takes the lead ahead of the Hyundai Kona (+98.2%) and Skoda Octavia (-18.9%) while the Toyota Corolla (+147.8%) is up 24 spots on January to #4, distancing the VW Golf (-7.5%) and Nissan Qashqai (-15.9%). Further down, the VW Polo (+98.7%) and Renault Captur (+101.4%) stand out.
