The Mitsubishi Xpander is the best-selling vehicle in Indonesia in January.
Uncharacteristically sparse data for the Indonesian new car market in January, with only a Top 5 brands and Top 2 models available for now. The market is hit hard this month with a steep -15.3% year-on-year decline to just 81.677 wholesales. Toyota (-1.2%) manages to post the slimmest drop in the Top 5, resulting in a strong 30.7% market share, with Mitsubishi (-7.7%) in 2nd place at 20.1% and Daihatsu (-21.4%) closing the podium at 18.1%. Both Suzuki (-28.1%) and Honda (-25.8%) freefall to round up the Top 5 whereas Isuzu soars 50.1% year-on-year to just under 3% share and Nissan (-67.5%) implodes outside the Top 10. Model-wise, just as the Toyota Avanza seemed to have regained control of the charts by outselling the Mitsubishi Xpander over the last 3 months of 2018, the smash-hit from Mitsubishi (-19.4%) is back in pole position in January and for the first time since last September, taking advantage of the changeover to the facelifted Avanza (-26.2%). This as the new Nissan Grand Livina – a rebadged Mitsubishi Xpander – has just launched in market. Only sales of all Daihatsu models are available for now, shooing the Sigra (+2.8%) in excellent shape whereas the Terios (-41.9%) sinks.
We will update this post when and if new data is brought forward.
