The Slovak new car market is lifted up 45.8% year-on-year by pre-WLTP stock shifting as is the case in almost all EU markets this month. The year-to-date volume is now up 11% to 71.202. Brand leader Skoda (+22%) significantly trails the market, resulting in a lower share at 14.4% vs. 18.4% so far in 2018. Volkswagen (+42%) and Kia (+43%) both match the market but Renault (+132%), Citroen (+96%), Peugeot (+87%) and Toyota (+83%) all get an artificial, WLTP-related boost in the remainder of the Top 10 while further down the charts Seat (+270%), Fiat (+153%), Lada (+144%), Subaru (+129%), Ford (+121%), Porsche (+120%), Jeep (+104%) and Mitsubishi (+100%) all post extravagant – albeit all artificial – gains. Model-wise, the Skoda Fabia (+82%) reclaims the pole position it holds year-to-date while the Skoda Rapid (+49%) takes advantage of a particularly weak month by the Skoda Octavia (-27%) to snap the #2 spot for the first time since July 2017. The VW Golf (+64%), Renault Clio (#5) and Kia Sportage (+37%) are also strong.
