The Turkish new car market is down a steep 14.8% year-on-year in May to 72.755 registrations including light commercials, pulling the year-to-date tally down 12.9% to just 302.311 units, its lowest score at this stage of the year since 2014 (226.698). The Top 5 best-selling brands all lose ground year-on-year, led by Renault slightly out-performing the market at -12% whereas Fiat (-17%), Ford (-21%) and Volkswagen (-26%) struggle and Hyundai (-1%) resists very solidly. Honda (+19%), Peugeot (+17%) and Mercedes (+12%) deliver outstanding results in the Top 10 by posting double-digit gains in a challenging environment. Further down, Subaru (+380%), DS (+80%), Porsche (+74%), Mini (+52%), Isuzu (+48%), Volvo (+48%), Suzuki (+18%) and Skoda (+10%) also impress whereas Infiniti (-88%), Jaguar (-76%), Opel (-61%), Land Rover (-47%), Mitsubishi (-44%) and Citroen (-39%) all implode.

Over in the models aisle, the Fiat Egea (-6%) manages to reclaim the lead for the second time in the past three months – and this year, selling almost 1.500 units more than the Renault Megane (-9%) which however holds onto the YTD pole position at 16.563 sales (+13%) vs. 15.404 (+3%) for the Egea. The Renault Clio (+8%) is down two spots on April to #3 with the Ford Transit/Tourneo Courier (-19%) in tow and the Peugeot 301 more than doubling its sales vs. May 2017 (+102%) to step up 14 spots on April, landing at a new record 5th place, smashing its previous best of #11 established in June 2014. The Honda Civic (+27%) and Nissan Qashqai (+11%) also lodge solid results in the Top 10. There are no recent launches (<12 months) in the Top 50, with the Skoda Karoq (#58) and Mercedes X-Class (#69) the most popular.
