February sales in the Czech Republic are down 1.2% year-on-year to 20.201, making it the fourth negative month in the past five. However the year-to-date tally remains solidly in positive territory at +5.2% to a record 43.420 units after two months. Home-grown leader Skoda goes against the grain with a 7% year-on-year uplift to 31.8% share vs. 34.4% YTD. Below, Volkswagen tumbles down 26% to 8.4% but Dacia surges 18% and land on the third step of the podium for the first time in Czech history according to BSCB records. The French-Romanian low-cost brand knocks Hyundai (-3%) down to #4 and Ford (+2%) down to #5. Toyota (+24%) and Kia (+17%) also impress inside the Top 10 while below, Mini (+361%), Jaguar (+75%), Land Rover (+74%), Suzuki (+62%), Nissan (+48%), Alfa Romeo (+45%), Porsche (+41%), Citroen (+27%) and Mazda (+27%) make themselves noticed.
The Dokker (+53%) helps Dacia to its very first Czech podium ranking this month.
The Czech models ranking has five Skodas in the Top 5, the brand’s best performance since having 6 in the Top 6 last May. The Top 4 respect the same order as in FY2017 and YTD: the Octavia (+2%) leads above the Fabia (+3%), Rapid (+20%) and Superb (-8%). The novelty is the Karoq crossover breaking into the Top 5 for the very first time at #5, equalling the Kodiaq’s record ranking hit in April 2017. The VW Golf is the best-selling foreign nameplate in 6th place despite dropping 2%, but is followed this time by the Dacia Dokker up 53% to #7, wth the Ford Focus (+78%), Nissan Qashqai (+109%), Dacia Sandero (+57%), Toyota Corolla (+208%), Dacia Lodgy (+173%) and Toyota Yaris (+111%) also posting spectacular gains.
