The Lebanese new car market is down 6% year-on-year in 2016 to 52.249 registrations. Toyota continues to dominate the brands ranking head and shoulders, even going against the grain with a 5% gain to hit 29.5% share vs. 26.5% a year ago. The Japanese carmaker widens the gap with the second ranked brand, Kia (-11%) to now account for more than double its sales at 15.427 vs. 7.529. Nissan (-1%) edges up to 12.7% ahead of Hyundai (-16%). Renault progresses 7% to overtake Mitsubishi (-52%) for fifth place, with Suzuki (-1%), BMW (+6%), Mazda (+10%) and most strikingly Chevrolet (+31%) managing market share increases inside the Top 10. Below, Lexus is up a spectacular 44% and 4 spots to #11, Peugeot is up 19% and 3 ranks to #13, Infiniti surges 84% and 8 spots to #15, with Jaguar (+19%), Dodge (+25%), Cadillac (+35%), Ferrari (+36%), Maserati (+40%), Isuzu (+46%), Jeep (+53%) and Bentley (+100%) also posting spectacular gains.

There is a new leader in the Lebanese models ranking this year: the Toyota Prado shoots up 63% to 4.366 sales and snaps the pole position (it ranked #6 in 2015), while the Toyota Land Cruiser gains 38% to land in second place vs. #4 a year ago. Leader in 2015, the Toyota Yaris is knowcked down 20% to third place while the Kia Picanto (-3%) is down one spot to #4. The Nissan Patrol brilliantly soars 66% to land inside the Top 5. Notice also the Hyundai Accent up 43% to #8, the Kia Sportage up 18% to #9 and Renault Sandero up 44% to #11. Among recent launches, the Suzuki Vitara is up 739% to end its first full year of sales inside the Top 20 and the Hyundai Creta surges 868% to #26. The Chevrolet Cobalt is the most popular all-new nameplate for 2016 in Lebanon at #27, ahead of the Infiniti Q30 (#67), Cadillac CT6 (#93), Geely GC5 (#100) and Cadillac XT5 (#113).
