New vehicle sales in the Philippines manage an unbelievable 7th consecutive year thanks to deliveries shooting up 25% year-on-year in 2016 to 404.051 units. Market leader Toyota manages to beat the market with sales up 27% to 158.058, improving its already mammoth share to 39.1%. Mitsubishi remains in 2nd place – its highest ranking in the world – but sees its share thaw from 16.3% to just 13.1% due to sales up only 13%. Hyundai is the best-performing carm aker in the Top 15 with a 53% surge landing the Korean brand on the podium – it ranked 5th in 2015. It knocks Ford (+33%) and Isuzu (+21%) one spot down. Nissan (+48%), Suzuki (+37%), Hino (+43%), Fuso (+37%) and Volkswagen (+76%) beat the market while we welcome Chinese carmaker Foton at #12.

The Accent (+79%) helps Hyundai onto the 2016 podium.

Toyota monopolises the first six spots in the 2016 models ranking. The Toyota Vios celebrates nine consecutive years in the Filipino pole position but only gains 9%, seeing its market share drop from 10.2% to 9%. The big winner is the Toyota Fortuner, up 81% and two spots to #2 thanks to the new generation, distancing the Hiace (+19%), Wigo (+37%), Innova (+7%) and Avanza (+59%). The best-selling non-Toyota is the Mitsubishi Mirage G4 ahead of the Isuzu MU-X and Ford Everest, up 152% to break into the Top 10 for its first full year at #8. The Toyota Hilux (+42%) makes it seven Toyotas in the Top 10, the Hyundai Accent (+79%) misses out on a Top 10 ranking for just 45 sales, the Honda Mobilio is up 62% and the Hyundai Tucson up 107%. We welcome the Honda BR-V at #45 and the Mazda CX-3 at #55.
