Another stunning performance for new car sales in the Czech Republic: up 11% year-on-year to 21.905 sales in October, the first time October sales cross the 20.000 unit-barrier and the 9th time the monthly record is broken so far this year with July the only exception. The year-to-date cume now stands at 214.619 units, up 12.5% on the same period in 2015 which itself was an all-time record. After just 10 months, the 2016 tally is only beaten by the 2015 annual figure of 230.857. All other full year results before that fall short of 10 months’ worth of sales in 2016: a testimony to the strength of the Czech new car market over the past two years, partly thanks to re-exports which represent 15% of total sales in October.
First appearance of the Skoda Kodiaq in the sales charts.
Homegrown Skoda lags behind the market at just +3% to 7.060 sales and 32.2% share, still above its YTD level of 31.8%. Volkswagen (+23%), Hyundai (+21%) and Renault (+23%) on the other hand frankly outpace overall sales and all rank within the Top 5. The best performer this month is without a doubt Mercedes, surging up 82% to 9th place with Toyota also very strong at +37% to #10. Year-to-date, fast gainers also include Mercedes (+58%), Honda (+43%), Suzuki (+43%), Alfa Romeo (+37%), Renault (+25%) and Dacia (+20%).
Strong performances by Hyundai (+21%) and the Tucson (#11).
The Skoda Octavia (2.578), Fabia (1.880), Rapid (1.025) and Superb (775) remain the most popular nameplates in the country ahead of the Hyundai i30 and VW Golf as per the YTD order. Notice also the Hyundai Tucson up 6 spots on September to #11, the VW Tiguan up to #16, Renault Megane up to #21 and Toyota Corolla up to #37. Four new nameplates make their first appearance in the Czech ranking this month: the Skoda Kodiaq at #78 – no doubt this will improve drastically over the next few months, the Maserati Levante at #176, Fiat 124 Spider at #204, Kia Niro at #213 and Audi Q2 at #231.
