Fiat frankly outpaces its home market at +16% thanks to very dynamic performance from the Panda (+22%), Punto (+48%) and 500X at #6 and despite disappointing showings from the 500L (-40%) and 500 (-31%). Volkswagen is back up to 2nd place overall but down 6% above Ford (+10%), Renault and Opel. German luxury carmakers are in great shape: Audi (+19%), Mercedes (+29%) and BMW (+27%) all rank higher this month than in 2015 so far, delivering the strongest year-on-year gains in the Top 15. Further down, notice Jeep up 102% thanks to the Renegade (#17) and Smart up 115% thanks to Fortwo relaunch (+70%) and the return of the Forfour.

The Hyundai Tucson is up to #25 in Italy this month.

In the models ranking, the VW Polo and Renault Clio return to #4 and #5 respectively after being kicked out of the Top 10 last month, the Dacia Duster is back up 9 spots to #16, the Citroen C3 is up 70% year-on-year to #18, the Peugeot 308 up 76% to #23, the Nissan Micra up 79% to #26 and the VW Passat up 140% to #32. A handful of recently launched SUVs are starting to make waves in Italy: the Hyundai Tucson is up a further 8 ranks on September to break into the Top 25 and the Renault Kadjar is up 20 spots to land at #37. The Ford Ecosport also shines, up 82% year-on-year and 11 ranks on September to hit its highest ever ranking in Italy so far at #28. Finally the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer stays above its archenemy the Mercedes B-Class both this month (982 sales vs. 976) and year-to-date (7.674 vs. 7.461) while both the Opel Karl (#43) and Suzuki Vitara (#46) manage to remain within Italy’s 50 most popular nameplates.
