UK new car sales celebrate 33 consecutive months of year-on-year gains with November deliveries up 8% on the year before to 172,327 units, bringing the year-to-date total to 2,310,237 sales, making 2014 the best year since 2007 in the UK. In the models ranking, below the Ford Fiesta faithful to the pole position it has now been holding for 21 months straight in spite of November sales down 13%, the VW Golf gains 34% year-on-year to land in 2nd place with 5,440 sales, leading its segment above the Ford Focus (#4), Vauxhall Astra (#7) and Audi A3 (#9). The VW Polo is up 43% to #7, the Nissan Qashqai up 30% to #6 and the Nissan Juke up 25% to #8. The Mercedes C-Class makes its come back among UK’s 10 most popular nameplates for the first time since last February and the 2nd time in the past 20 months at #10.
SsangYong Korando – Ssangyong doubled its sales year-on-year in the UK this month.
Brand-wise, the only two manufacturers in the Top 12 to lose ground year-on-year in November are… the two leaders: Ford is down 9% and Vauxhall down 15% even though the Chevrolet brand is no more. Below, Volkswagen (+22%), BMW (+20%), Audi (+21%) and Nissan (+34%) display explosive growth. In the Top 20, Toyota (+25%), Renault (+20%), Mini (+24%) and Volvo (+44%) also shine while further down Mitsubishi (+254%), MG (+127%), Maserati (+119%), SsangYong (+103%), Lexus (+85%), Lotus (+75%) and Jeep (+45%) are the biggest gainers.
