Portuguese new car sales are still on fire: up 33% year-on-year to 11,718 registrations and lifting the year-to-date total to 130.921 deliveries, up 35% on 2013. Brand-wise, the Top 5 best-sellers are unchanged vs. October and YTD with Renault leading the charge (+21%), ahead of Volkswagen (+32%), Peugeot (+36%), BMW (+66%) and Mercedes (+48%). Other impressive gainers include Nissan (+84%), Mazda (+72%), Land Rover (+67%), Smart (+55%), Dacia (+51%), Seat (+50%), Kia (+49%) and Volvo (+47%).
The VW Golf manages to hold onto the models pole position for the 4th consecutive month thanks to 608 sales and 5.2% share: this could well be the first time the Golf nameplate stays that long in the Portuguese lead. It is however assured to finish the year in 2nd place below the Renault Clio as the gap between the two models is too large to be overcome in December alone. The Nissan Qashqai stays third vs. #7 YTD, the BMW 3 Series is up 4 spots on October to #7 and now squeezes into the YTD Top 10, making it two BMWs among Portugal’s 10 best-sellers. The Peugeot 308 remains solid at #8 vs. #14 YTD, the Volvo V40 is up 6 ranks to #18, the Peugeot 108 up 15 to #21, the Citroen C4 Cactus down 5 to #30, the BMW 2 Series up 26 to #36, the Nissan Pulsar up 42 to #48 and the Renault Twingo up 26 to #54. Finally, notice the Smart Forfour up a gigantic 159 spots on its first month back in October to land at #38 with 98 sales and 0.8% share, this generation’s best ranking in the world so far.
