The Norwegian new car market is up a shy 0.5% year-on-year in October to 12,963 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 120,067 units, up an equally shy 1% on 2013. Brand-wise, Volkswagen (15.9%), Toyota (11.2%) and Volvo (8%) dominate as they did in FY2013 and YTD, Nissan is up to #4 and 6.7%, Skoda up to #5 and 6.1% and Mercedes up to #8 and 4.8%. The VW Golf dominates the models ranking more than ever at 8% share and sees the part of its electric variant the e-Golf climb from 23% in September to 31% this month at 324 units. This makes the e-Golf the 2nd most successful electric vehicle in Norway in October below only the Nissan Leaf (372 sales) and as the Tesla Model S tumbles down to just 36 units. No, Tesla is not dead in Norway. Model S sales have always evolved in waves a new shipments reached Norwegian shores so expect it to climb back the ladder very soon.
Almost one in 3 VW Golf sold in Norway this month is electric!
Other great performers in Norway this month include the Volvo V70 at #6, Volvo V40 at #7, the Peugeot 308 up 9 spots to #12, Mercedes C-Class up to #22 vs. #37 YTD, BMW X3 up to #24, Renault Clio up to #32 vs. #69 YTD, Kia Soul up to #33 vs. #85 thanks to the electric variant (83% of sales) and the Citroen C1 up to #39 vs. #119 YTD. Finally, we welcome the Lexus NX directly into the Norwegian Top 50 at #43 with 89 sales and 0.7%. Logical, the only available variant here for now is the NX300h hybrid benefitting from a whole range of government subsidies and other parking/traffic lane advantages. Still, Norway is already the third country to feature an impressive performance by Lexus’s new SUV along with Taiwan (#17) and Sweden (#67).
