The Finnish new car market continues to evolve way above its level from a year ago in May, up 41% to 10,070 registrations, however this is biased by the fact that car tax rise implemented on April 1, 2012 artificially boosted sales before its implementation and slowed them afterwards. As a result the year-to-date total is still down 19% year-on-year at 47,169 units. The VW Golf is in the lead for the third time in the last 4 months thanks to 528 sales and 5.2% share. Now clearly boosted by the new generation, the Skoda Octavia is back up a massive 10 spots on April to land in second position at 434 units and 4.3%, bringing it up to #4 and 3% year-to-date vs. #2 in 2012.
Other great performers this month include the BMW 3 Series stable at #6 vs. #30 over the Full Year 2012 with 272 sales and 2.7%, the Kia Rio up 7 ranks on last month to #9, the Ford Mondeo up from outside the Top 30 to #12, the Mercedes E-Class up to #17, Mazda6 up to #18 and the Skoda Rapid at #23.
