The Russian new car market significantly slows down its year-on-year growth in November at just +0.4% to 240,322 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 2,681,985 units, still up a very healthy 12% on 2011. The Lada Granta confirms it is the new favourite car in the country and ranks #1 for the third consecutive month with 12,836 sales and 5.3% share. While it’s not really reflecting how this year has unfolded, the Lada Priora takes advantage of a month off from the Lada Kalina (down to #8) to take the lead in the year-to-date ranking at 115,522 units and 4.3% whereas it was only #1 in February and August this year.
The Hyundai Solaris climbs back onto the podium for the first time since last July at #3 with 9,272 sales and 3.9% while the Lada Samara is probably drawing its last breath, albeit up a spectacular 10 spots on October to #4 at 7,399 units and 3.1%, its highest ranking since last December when it simply ranked #1… How times have changed since. Another exceptional month for the Renault Duster, #7 again but beating its volume and market share records to 6,755 sales and 2.8%. Notice also the Skoda Octavia up to #11 and the Lada Largus breaking into the Top 20 for the first time.
Brand-wise, Lada is finally on the mend and manages to behave better than the market for the first time in at least 2 years, up 7% year-on-year in November to 45,107 sales and 18.8% share, while Renault climbs into a brilliant 2nd place at 17,177 units and 7.1% and is now #3 year-to-date below Chevrolet but above Kia. The biggest gainers this month are Spanish and Chinese: Seat is up 613%, Geely up 147% and Great Wall up 124%. Other performers include Mercedes up 31%, Audi up 63%, Chery up 50% and Porsche up 66%.
